Academic Accommodation Application Guide
This page will guide you step-by-step on how to apply for academic accommodations through UCF Student Accessibility Services. This includes requests for testing accommodations, notetaking technology support, communication access, and other requests for lecture, lab, and internship courses.
1. Submit the Student Application (via Knights Access)
Click the Student Application link and complete it. You will be prompted to provide your NID and NID password.
- Accelerated Consideration: Don’t want to wait for a meeting or don’t feel that it is necessary to meet with someone in SAS?
- Skip the wait: Accelerated Consideration is an option for students who want SAS to consider specific accommodations without scheduling a meeting
- Quick review: Submit the application and documentation together to be eligible.
- Fast response: SAS will notify the student within 2 business days if accommodations are approved or if a meeting is needed.
- Monitor UCF Email: Check UCF email (including Junk/Spam folders) and follow instructions. Students may be approved for all, some, or no accommodations during this process. The email will inform students of the next steps.
- Still flexible: Students can meet with SAS later to learn more about processes or request additional accommodations (which will require a meeting).
2. Provide Documentation (if available)
After submitting your online application, you will be invited to submit documentation via electronic upload. SAS offers an optional Academic Accommodation Provider Form that students can have their healthcare provider complete.
Documentation Tips and Considerations for SAS Accommodation Reviews:
- Helpful documents: Psychoeducational evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, and provider letters are all useful.
- What works best: Documentation should explain how the student’s disability and the related functional limitations of the disability impacts academics (e.g., testing, reading).
- Not sure about the quality of the documentation? Submit whatever is readily available. Students can still schedule a Welcome Meeting even if documentation is minimal or unavailable, but approval of accommodations may take longer. In certain situations, additional documentation may be necessary beyond what is initially provided in order for SAS to more thoroughly consider the accommodation request.
- Next steps: The SAS consultant will review information provided and determine reasonable accommodations

3. Check UCF Email and Follow the Prompts
After Submitting the Application
- Students receive an automated email confirming the application.
- Within 2 business days, SAS will email with next steps. Check your UCF email (including Junk/Spam as our system’s emails occasionally route there).
- If UCF email isn’t active, call 407-823-2371.
Next Steps
- If Accelerated Consideration is approved, students receive instructions via email.
- If a Welcome Meeting is needed:
- Scheduling an appointment may require a wait of 3+ weeks. We encourage students to start the process as soon as possible.
- The meeting covers your academic concerns, possible accommodations, and next steps. Our goal is to keep the meeting relaxed and comfortable.
- Accommodations are not retroactive and may take time to implement (e.g., testing accommodations need 5 business days notice). Current UCF students may request accommodations at any time but are encouraged to meet with SAS as soon as they become aware of a need.
While you are waiting for your meeting, review our information on Transitioning with Accommodation from High School to UCF or Learn More about Accommodations.
4. Questions or Concerns at Any Point in the Semester
We know that questions, challenges, and concerns may arise. The SAS staff member you met with initially would be happy to answer any follow-up questions. One of the biggest mistakes students make is waiting too long to address a concern.
Email or call your initial SAS contact.
Don’t remember who you met with? You can email us at sas@ucf.edu, call 407-823-2371, or visit our office.
Taking Classes at a UCF Connect Campus?
The SAS team on the Orlando campus works closely with the UCF Connect Campuses SAS contacts. If you are taking a course at a UCF Connect Campus and want to set up a Welcome Meeting, you can contact our Orlando office to schedule. Meetings can be done either in person at the Orlando campus or online via zoom. To see our listing of Connect Campus representatives, please view the Connect Campus Contact List.
Temporary Disability and Accommodations (Including Transportation)
- Examples: Broken dominant arm/wrist, concussion with lasting symptoms
- Next Step: Schedule a Welcome Meeting to explore options. Follow the steps listed above.
- Note: Not all temporary conditions qualify for SAS accommodations. Some may need to be addressed directly with professors. SAS will provide guidance on how to proceed.
- Timing Matters: Accommodations may take time to coordinate and are not always immediately implemented. More urgent classroom concerns may need to be addressed directly with the professor.
- Transportation and Accommodations: SAS/UCF do not offer personal transportation services as a disability accommodation. All students need to utilize the resources available on campus, such as the UCF shuttle and strategic parking.
